Church Movement
Well, my last church related post generated some good conversation and kinda forced me to take a step back and think about the situation a little more. I've been trying to think of reasons to justify the churches actions, and I'm not specifically talking about the Others campaign. But, if I believe that the people working there are truly longing after Gods heart (which I do believe), and that their primary goal is to see people come to know Christ, then maybe there is some justifiable theory present in their actions.
The church has taken a more drastic turn towards a seeker-friendly institution and has made modifications (repeatedly) to the service structure and content (be it commercials, theming or tackling current events), not to mention minor decorative modifications.
Perhaps the church leadership saw something that the rest of the congregation was comfortable ignoring and felt compelled to act. If church attendance (and it ain't about the numbers folks) had been steadily declining and the best weapon we had in our arsenal was Wednesday night cold calls, maybe something drastic did need to be done. If the congregation was failing to demonstrate the radical life altering love of Christ, then perhaps the only action that could be taken was a drastic shift that has inevitably upset people and has been a painful heart wrenching experience.
